"These oddball sessions, focused on Feedback, represent my 2nd set of composerly contributions to a very interesting series with Swiss composer Stephan Thelen.
For this round, Chris & I set up 3 stereo mic pairs at different heights around the room, using my 2 favorite mic types—LDC and Ribbon—on my Benson Benmaster amp. My goal? To create, manipulate, and enhance natural feedback using the amp and my Fiam guitar.
With easy access to the amp’s headstock and transformer, I was able to experiment with magnetic feedback for some wild, trancey sounds.
All my pedals were handpicked to amplify these feedbacks and inspire pure musicality. What a fun, mind-bending ride!

IN THE STUDIO: Great to be at @appleheadrecord , a beautiful studio in Woodstock NY. Swipe for more pics (I put the funny one first..) I hadn’t been back to Woodstock since recording with the band Rubber Rodeo at Bearsville Studios many many years ago (our studio neighbors during those sessions were @kingcrimsonhq the @wearethedbs ) Amazingly, parts of the now defunct Bearsville studio are here at Applehead, including the boat shaped ceiling diffusers seen in the first shot of the beautiful live room. Now they’re making amazing improvements, extending the studio space as well as installing a vintage Neve with an amazing backstory.
