We are thrilled to share the debut full-length album from Canadian DIY legend pinksnail, this mess is more blessed with u in it, out today.
we first got to know evelyn when they contributed to the recording of last year’s fittonia album. a powerhouse of a musician, a gem of a friend and collaborator, we are so glad to have them in our community and on our roster. When they first shared this record with us last year, we were immediately taken by it. I hardly slept the first night I heard it, because I couldn’t stop listening.
pinksnail is the solo project of composer and multi-instrumentalist evelyn charlotte-joe fraser coyne. evelyn wrote, recorded, and performed every instrument on the album over multiple years while contributing as central animator of the canadian underground. their work as an accompanist has spanned geography and genre, including live and studio contributions to far-ranging projects including wax mannequin, joyful joyful, zoon, shanika maria, sarah good and the bads, fittonia, and cots. evelyn currently works with musician and author rae spoon, montreal-based powerviolence trio jetsam, and electroacoustic avant-garde outfit NPNP trio.
this mess is more blessed with u in it is an ode to birth death; a funeral serving up birthday cake. mixing choral music with angular harmonic dissonance and hardcore-influenced rhythm, the album serves lyrical themes of mental health, trauma/addiction, recovery, resisting injustice, fast food, gender confusion, sex, and being in better relation with all beings. drawing from traditions of pop, punk & hardcore, folk, and prog, this mess delivers far more than your average singer-songwriter album.
in live performance, evelyn recruits various freaks, lovers, and weirdos from the punk, experimental, and folk diy ecosystem to tour as often as possible. catch them this summer as they bless the trans-canada tour circuit with this material.
We hope you enjoy this record as much as we do!
