As the global creative and cultural community gathers in Cannes, APF will host a convening on the sidelines of the Cannes Film Festival under the theme, “The Stories We Fund, The Futures We Build.” This convening will bring together leaders across philanthropy, media, culture, and social impact for meaningful conversations on the narratives shaping Africa’s future and the role of strategic funding in driving change. The event will feature an opening conversation, a fireside chat, and a panel discussion with distinguished speakers and changemakers from across sectors. Join us in Cannes as we explore the power of storytelling, partnership, and philanthropy in building the futures we want to see across the continent. #APFatCannes2026 #AfricanPhilanthropy #CannesFilmFestival #TheStoriesWeFund

What role can Asian innovation play in solving global challenges? APF’s Executive Director, Mosun Layode, will be speaking at the Philanthropy Asia Summit 2026 in Singapore (18–20 May), sharing how global philanthropic networks can better connect local insight with coordinated action to direct resources where they’re needed most. At a time when impact matters more than intent, PAS brings together leaders across philanthropy, government, and the private sector to build partnerships that can drive real, systemic change. This year’s theme, “Asian Innovation. Global Good.”, is a call to move beyond ideas—to back solutions with the collaboration, catalytic capital, and shared accountability needed to scale. An invitation-only convening by Philanthropy Asia Alliance, supported by Temasek Trust. #PAS2026

Large-scale philanthropy in Africa is increasingly driven by local wealthy individuals, with most giving directed within their own countries to support health, education, and poverty—yet much of this funding still flows to governments and large institutions rather than grassroots organisations, shaping both the scale and reach of impact. How can more funding reach grassroots communities where it is needed most? #AfricanPhilanthropy #apf #africafacts

Effective philanthropy today goes beyond simply giving, it requires intentional decisions, flexible approaches, and a strong focus on measurable impact. In a rapidly changing world, how we give matters just as much as what we give, and thoughtful, adaptive strategies are key to creating lasting change. #AfricanPhilanthropy #APF #StrategicGiving #KnowledgeSharing

The way African philanthropy is engaging with the call to decolonise the global financial architecture is reshaping how we think about power, funding flows, and development itself. Rather than simply increasing funding, the conversation is about fundamentally rebalancing systems that have historically concentrated decision-making and resources outside the continent. It highlights the need for greater African agency, more equitable financial structures, and recognition of local knowledge, indigenous giving systems, and domestic sources of capital as central—not secondary—to development finance. Funding African collaboratives matters now more than ever because they enable coordinated, cross-sector action to tackle complex challenges at scale. By bringing together funders, governments, NGOs, and communities, they help align efforts, pool resources, and drive systems-level change that no single actor can achieve alone. Strengthening investment in them is key to unlocking more effective, locally led, and long-term impact across Africa. #AfricanPhilanthropy #APF #CollectiveImpact

It is official! Many of you already know, and some have already received exclusive invitations, but we are excited to formally announce the 2026 APF Conference. 📍 Cape Town, South Africa 📅 October 25–27, 2026 Theme: Bridge the Divide; Reimagine the Future Across Africa, countries are navigating conflict, democratic fragility, and widening inequities at a time when development aid and philanthropic flows are shifting. These pressures have deepened divides across the ecosystem: between sources of capital, across regions and language blocs, and even between generations of givers. But within these disruptions lies opportunity. The 2026 APF Conference will convene philanthropists, funders, and changemakers from across Africa and the Global South to rethink how we collaborate, how we lead, and how we deploy capital for the future. This is not a conference for passive participation. It is a space to build bridges, challenge assumptions, and shape what comes next. If you have received an invitation and are yet to complete your registration, this is a good time to secure your place. We look forward to welcoming you to Cape Town. #APF2026 #AfricanPhilanthropy #BridgeTheDivide #ReimagineTheFuture #PhilanthropyInAfrica

2024 APF Conference is a reminder that the APF Conference is not designed for passive attendance. It is a convening of leaders, philanthropists, and practitioners actively shaping how development is financed and delivered across Africa. This October, in Cape Town, we are bringing together a carefully curated room to move conversations into action, drive meaningful collaboration, and bridge critical gaps while redefining the future of African philanthropy. If you have received an invitation, this is your moment to confirm your place in the room and complete your registration. Unlike traditional philanthropy, which often focuses on granting funds in response to needs or requests, impact philanthropy is goal-oriented. Donors carefully define what success looks like, select interventions based on evidence or research, and continuously measure and evaluate the results of their contributions. This ensures that resources are being used effectively and that the intended impact is actually achieved. #APF #AfricanPhilanthropy #ImpactPhilanthropy
