In Goa, the story of Narkasur begins weeks before Diwali in small corners of villages where bamboo, coir, paper and wild imagination come together. What starts as a frame slowly takes shape into a towering demon, crafted by young and old alike, each adding their spark to the legend. On the eve before Diwali, these creations meet their fiery end symbolizing the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil. It’s chaotic, creative, and deeply rooted in Goan spirit. There’s so much more behind the flames and we can’t wait to show you what this tradition truly feels like.

kids and young and old running back home from their schools and work get together in the making of the mighty Narakasur
I have been observing these incredible pieces of massive art pieces made with old newspapers , coir ,bamboo and scrap metal in neighbouring streets in awe!❤️

Working up to celebrate Narak Chaturdashi where these massive devils are burnt away, signifying good over evil.
A months of hard work and poof in minutes to ash!
And the impermanence of evil and invoking good in our lives…
