We’ve already covered the mission and our heartfelt thanks to the incredible For Keeps Books community, so now (before the anniversary month ends) I (
@antylc ) want to take a moment to reintroduce myself as the owner—because we’ve got some new folks in here, and it’s been a minute. Quick overview: I was born and raised in Atlanta, moved to NYC for school, and lived there for 8 years. While in New York, I spent most of my time building my book collection. Because my apartment was the size of a shoebox, I often found myself using my bed as a bookshelf.
My friends who knew me before Auburn Avenue say I essentially cloned my apartment on Saint Marks and gave everyone a key (
@amp.wata reminds me whenever I’m feeling out of sorts because she’s my actual human). I’m an artist by education with a research-based practice and a focus in sculpture. For this reason, I see For Keeps Books as an extension of my practice—existing as a permanent installation, marrying my curatorial and archival work with the arts. When you ask, “What are you doing the three days that you’re closed?” kindly keep in mind that we are not a machine, we are a tiny operation and after six years, I’m still the one collecting, curating, programming (with the help of our wonderful, fantastic, multi talented programming assistant
@rukevwwe ), designing flyers and merch, going to the fairs, staying up all night making sure we open the next day—all while working in the store half of the week. And it’s been a pleasure. THANK YOU FOR 6 YEARS. A1FKB FOREVER. Big thank you to
