RIP David Burke (1934-2026), in my opinion the best screen Watson. I loved the impish humour he brought to the role, and his willingness to laugh at Holmes' more absurd eccentricities.
AMAZING news: per my latest royalty statement from Walker Books for the Alex Rider graphic novels, the series has now sold an incredible HALF A MILLION copies! THANK YOU to everyone out there reading them, and of course to the parents, teachers, and librarians who recommend them.
(As of last year the total UK library loans for the series was just shy of another half-million. So by the time this year’s PLR statement rolls around the total sales & loans readership could well break the million mark. Absolutely mind-blowing.)
Resident Evil Village turned five years old this week. I was extremely lucky to speak with writer @antonyjohnston and performer @maggiethebard all about Lady Dimitrescu for my new book, Beyond Fear: Inside Action Horror Games. They both give a fascinating insight into the character’s conception, impact, and how important the gaming community has been to making her iconic. Just got my copy of Nick Akerman's Beyond Fear, examining the appeal of action horror video games. The final chapter is all about Resident Evil Village's Lady Dimitrescu, talking to performer Maggie Robertson and I about the character's development and appeal. Good stuff!
Washed my sun hat after returning from vacation. Instructions say to block dry it. I don't have a hat block… but I do have more than a few model skulls around the house. Perfect fit 😂💀👌
Totally normal thing for a human and definitely not an AI to be researching.
(Not to mention the totally human-written subject line, woof)
PS Joyce, I can't help feeling your business is hamstrung by exclusively working only with the laughably small number of authors who write such books 🤡🤡🤡
New newsletter, with the announcement about Can You Solve the Murder? book 3, links to a few podcasts I've been on, and some thoughts on AI, writing, and trust.
