A ne, nepřináší další epickou pohádku o vyvoleném zachránci světa. Přináší něco mnohem zajímavějšího - příběh člověka, který nikdy neměl být hrdinou.
Alwyn Písař začíná na úplném dně. Zlodějíček, psanec, člověk, který přežívá spíš náhodou než schopnostmi. A právě to dává knize sílu hned od začátku - žádné vznešené ideály, žádná velká proroctví. Jen tvrdá realita světa, kde se chyby neodpouštějí a kde tě minulost vždycky dožene.
Ryan tentokrát vsadil na intimnější vyprávění, ale o to víc funguje. Sledujeme Alwynův život od úplného dna, přes chvíle, kdy začíná chápat, že svět není jen černý a bílý, až po momenty, kdy si musí vybrat, kým vlastně chce být. A věř mi - tohle není cesta, která by byla jednoduchá nebo hezká.
Co mě na knize bavilo nejvíc?
Ta syrovost.
Žádné přikrášlování. Žádní dokonalí hrdinové. Postavy dělají chyby, nesou následky a někdy prostě jen přežívají další den. A právě díky tomu působí celý příběh neuvěřitelně uvěřitelně.
A pak je tu tempo. Ryan si dává na čas, ale nikdy nenudí. Naopak - máš pocit, že všechno směřuje k něčemu většímu. Že každý krok, každé rozhodnutí, každá zrada má svůj význam. A když se věci začnou lámat, tak to fakt stojí za to.
Svět samotný je temný, drsný a plný konfliktů - víra, moc, politika… nic z toho tu není jen kulisa. Všechno má váhu. A hlavně: nic není jisté.
🩸 Shrnutí
Vyvrhel je návrat Anthonyho Ryana ve velkém stylu. Temnější, osobnější a možná i silnější než jeho předchozí věci. Není to o hrdinovi, který zachrání svět. Je to o člověku, který se snaží přežít – a přitom neztratit sám sebe.

Syrové, chytré a zatraceně návykové. Přesně ten typ fantasy, který tě chytne… a nepustí.

The trilogy restored my hope that good fantasy can still be written—and published—even nowadays.
Through all three books—The Pariah, The Martyr, and The Traitor—we follow the steps of young Alwyn: outlaw, spy, prisoner, scribe, soldier, traitor. A very likeable character—keen and clever, quick with both mind and hands. What begins as necessity gradually turns into admiration, and eventually even love.
We are there with him in an unforgiving kingdom filled with wars and ambitions.
A woman. A lady. A warrior. Evadine Courlain. Strong and independent, guided by visions sent by Seraphile. She longs to change the kingdom, to bring peace, and to prevent the coming of the Second Scourge. Joan of Arc, if you wish, cherished reader.
In my humble opinion, characters can make any story better—or worse. Good dialogues and relationships (not only romantic ones, but those built on loyalty, hatred, friendship, and rivalry) can save even the weakest plot.
This trilogy does not contain a single stupid character. Everyone has their rightful place, with a unique way of speaking. Alwyn speaks as a wise man, ordinery soldier or outlaw, well, not very polite. They are predictable and their actions are logical – do not expect honorable leader to get drunk with lowest rank of their army, for example.

Anthony Ryan is master storyteller. Truly he is. His trilogy is a dark medieval fantasy with burning castles, religious blindness, fear of unknown and hatred toward those who are not “one of us“.
You will spend countless days with armies on the march. You will stand among the soldiers covered in the blood and guts and mud. The weight of war is pressing on every step.
