My dad, Craig Luce, an artist, philosopher, physicist, maker of all kinds of things, and king of dad jokes, passed away over a month ago now, on May 17th 2024. Mostly I don’t think social media deserves him, but I also recognize the convenience here in communicating where I’m at right now. ❤️ It’s a trip grieving someone who didn’t really believe in death like most people do. My dad always acted like he had seen Interstellar(one of his favorite films) in a past life and already knew it was based on a true story. He would talk to my brother and me about quantum physics, consciousness, and spirituality before we were old enough to realize it was probably different from what most kids were chatting about with their fathers. I hear the droning of Alan Watts or Eckhart Tolle’s voice today and it takes me right back to 2004 in his Chrysler minivan, where we’d listen via audiobook for hours on long drives, breaking only for jam sessions on the instruments he’d litter the car with, or the question I’d roll my eyes at: “whatcha thinkin bout?” (That I now love) The way he seeped deeply but humbly into my entire experience of life. He was easily the smartest person I’ve ever met, with a creative mind that had to have been composed of some of the same stardust that made the wacky but wonderful ones like Da Vinci and Einstein, and the long list of other great minds my dad was fascinated by(obsessed with). I am lucky as hell to have had him in my life, and thankful (especially now) that he instilled some sense in me that it’s probably not really “over” when we think it’s over. At least not like we think it is. Good little Easter eggs you’ve left, pops. Thank you. If you don’t hear from me for a little while I’m most likely doodling and listening to Alan, which btw I think we should probably all do more often x “Love is the one thing we’re capable of perceiving that transcends dimensions of time and space.” (Writing in the post is from his Five Wishes that he filled out 12 years ago) May we all be more like Craig 🤘🏻⚡️

May 9. They said we got there just in time, because in two weeks there would be a line to even get a picture in front of this view. From our perspective, we were the only outsiders in town. Everyone greeted us with a glimmer in their eye, like we were in on a secret. We skipped like children down the cobblestone streets, giggling to each other. “What should we do now??!” It felt like there wasn’t a wrong turn. It was one of those days where whatever you desire one moment is right around the next corner. We sat barefoot in the grass and watched the sun set over the water. It was like a dream, but then a lot of days feel like that with you. Undoubtedly, it was my favorite day of 2023, and one of the best days of my life. 10 days after @p.hans.ward proposed, when we were actually able to decompress and digest it all, in Croatia (one of the most special places on earth) 😍✨😭 A lot about this past year has been devastating, challenging, and just stupid, but there have been so many blissful and unforgettable personal moments throughout. Grateful as hell to have my person by my side to take it all in with, making me laugh through whatever comes ❤️ here’s to the whole adventure While we’re here on the gram gotta shout out @marisamasonjewelry who took Pete’s vision and his grandfather’s sapphire and crafted this ring flawlessly (last slide) 🙌🏻 tis perfect for me

8 months ago we sold both our cars and moved out of our home, leaving arguably the hottest free pile in the Sunset, a tower of most of our belongings. The things we couldn’t part with (mostly @p.hans.ward ‘s extensive rock and twig collections) we stacked into an 8x10’ storage container. Then we hopped on a plane with a few suitcases and that feeling of giddy levity that comes with wriggling free of what you don’t need. We saw friends we hadn’t seen in ages, family we hadn’t seen for longer, and parts of the States (and Mexico) that we had never seen before. We met some really amazing people, learned so much about history and culture and art, and were creatively revitalized in ways we didn’t realize we needed. Now we’re heading back to the Bay with even more reverence for our community there that we missed, but also with a sense that the net continues to widen and deepen in wonderfully important ways, and as it grows so do we. Thank you x1000 to everyone who hosted us (or joined us!) along the way - the generosity we have felt throughout from people we love was so humbling and comforting and taught us so much. We’re going to be soaking in the lessons and the sweetness from this trip for a long time.
