The Socialite Murder ~ @jessi_kroft
Publication date: 18th June 2026
Thanks to Jessi and @inkslingerpr for having me on the ARC team for this gem. I read The Resident Murder a couple of months ago and loved the Greys Anatomy but with murder style, and was glad to see there would be some familiar faces returning in The Socialite Murder too.
This book is set three years after the events from the hospital that brought Kylie and Blake together, and the setting is now a summer break outside of the city in the Hamptons. While it was meant to be a fresh start for everyone, it turns out to be anything but with tensions among the group, and the couple next door, Celeste and Roland. When the couple are found dead, Kylie delves into secrets that tried to stay buried.
I like these characters and just FYI if I go missing, I want Kylie investigating 😄 . This is a great, fast paced thriller that had me questioning every twist as I couldn't see where this was heading. The multi POV helped bring the story together by unravelling the mix of desperation and revenge. Could the series be continued further? I hope so! If you haven't yet read The Resident Murder I'd definitely recommend reading this first to get an idea of the characters and history between them.

So while these books haven't entirely been on my Kindle since the beginning of time, they have been with me through two new Kindles, and a new decade so its close enough 🦕😄
No idea why I haven't got round to reading them yet either as I enjoy all of these authors. Please tell me others have books (any format!) that have been with you through a new era! 🤞

Watching John ~ @christinapattersonauthor
Publication date - out now!
This is the author's debut and what a psychological twist it was! The story follows John, with a seemingly standard life working in home security and through this, he gets to see how people's lives unfold on the screen. John is familiar with recognising the signs of evil, and when this becomes apparent in one of his home viewings, the moral question is raised - ignore or take action.
The book is dark, with references made to child SA. John could report this but having seen the failings made by the system close to home feels a reluctance to or he could take action himself, ensuring these monsters are stopped for good. It was a gripping read that makes you confront realities in an unsettling way, and while the book questions if it is ever right to do wrong but for the right reasons, the morally grey theme had me going back and forth with what I believed to be 'right'.
While the book is a steady paced read, the way the story evolved was hard to put it down and I read it in a few hours. The cliffhanger ending had me making up my own thoughts of what could happen next - this is a book that sticks with you! A great read ⭐️

I always enjoy these 5 4 3 2 1 posts and haven't done one in a little while. I'm branching out with books at the moment and have a few non-thrillers on my TBR (thanks @netgalley ) 😄 so looking forward to giving these a try.

⭐️ ARC REVIEW ⭐️
The Killer in Room Five ~ @samhollandbooks
Publication date ~ 21/5/26
Thanks to @netgalley and @harpercollinsuk for providing me with this e-ARC
I've enjoyed all of Sam Hollands' books from the Major Crimes series, but this one was on a whole new level 😦
When DCI Abby Fox returns to a hostile work environment after a 12 month suspension, she is called to visit Hollowpines, the secure mental health hospital where patient, Joe Sinclair has confessed to a brutal murder. Despite Joe having not left the hospital, he had accurate descriptions of the victim and the injuries sustained so the questions about Joe start early on - is he telling the truth or is someone inside the hospital more involved in the murders?
Abby is a likeable character, determined to prove herself following her suspension. She forms a bond with Joe, who is a vulnerable man who has doubts about himself both now and in the past. Is he really capable of murder? Police procedurals are understandably a little slow in places, however I felt this was on a constant roll throughout. It was a faster pace than previous books and I felt myself tense throughout many of the chapters, sure of where the story was going and being proven totally incorrect. The hospital and its characters brought a multitude of feels especially as the story is brought together in a conclusion.
A brilliant book and I am looking forward to (hopefully!) more in this series.

Pictures of You ~ Josh Malerman
Publication date: 8th September 2026
Thanks to @netgalley and @delreybooks for providing me with this e-ARC
I've read a couple of Josh Malerman books, and I think I will expect the unexpected going forwards, this particularly applies for this book! I was thinking it might be an Incidents Around the House type read, however it didn't follow a supernatural/horror theme. Instead the FMC wakes up after going on a bender with her boyfriend, alone, in a strange bed and behind a canvas as a piece of art. The story explores the creativity of art but for me it just didn't quite cut it here. I found the FMC quite irritating at best, and the ambiguity felt too much in places - I needed answers! The author has a great way of writing and description, although the slow burn just felt long.
I think this will be a divisive read, and I look forward to reading other reviews.

I read 14 books in April 📚 There were quite a few ARC reads, and I enjoyed the good mix of authors I've read before and those new to me.
My top three books:
⭐️ When You Looked Away
⭐️ The Patients
⭐️ The Caretaker
Pictures of You was hard to get into - I think I have a conflicted relationship with Josh Malerman books 😆 It didn't flow quite as well as Incidents Around The House, and I think I was hoping for something similar. None Left to Tell was different from Noelle Ihli's thrillers, it was historical fiction and packed a punch with the depth of the connection between three women during the time of the Mountain Meadow Massacre.
Looking forward to seeing how May goes!

When You Looked Away @sarahgovett
Publication date: 9th July 2026
Thanks to @netgalley and @michaeljbooks for providing me with this e-ARC
This book follows Laura, a single mother who, after navigating a messy divorce has been able to move on with her new fiance while caring for her young son Benjy. When Benjy goes missing, questions and doubts are raised which leads to the return of DI Stratton and the team investigating.
This book had me hooked from the start - a missing child who was taken seemingly from under his mothers nose and not being able to trust those around you. I enjoyed seeing DI Stratton return in this book, I felt her to be far more likeable in this book as opposed to her introduction in Believe, and could empathise with her far more.
The potential suspects felt so real until new information was brought up and I was questioning everything once more. I didn't know what to feel about Laura, however the more the story went along and characters backgrounds were uncovered really emphasised these twists. The emotional punch meant this book stuck with me as the resolution was brought about which was a truly heart wrenching in more ways than one.
I'm looking forward to seeing where this series ends up!

Excited to see a new @chriscarterbooksofficial book out on 16th July 👏🏻 It's standalone which is ideal as I still haven't finished the Robert Hunter series (buuut...a new book in this series is out next year too 😁).
Should be a good one - who else is looking forward to this release?
