The annual gathering of Jim Rooney’s Irregulars (old enough, the storied songwriter joked, to be called the Procedurals) was pure joy. An unrivaled lineup of musicians playing favorites in the spirit of friendship and love for the repertoire. I bet the after party rules. @shawncamp01@sambushband@timobrienmusic@kathymattea and so many more! Thanks to Steven and Ellen for inviting me.
Sharing one small exchange from the massively inspiring conversation between Rosanne Cash and Neko Case , expertly guided by Ann Powers, and which @littmanwrites captured so well for @nashvillescene . Not to mention these stellar photos by @ashleyholstein . There's no feeling quite like seeing The Porch community grow and come to life over and over again—and expand to include such people as those pictured, and all not pictured who were and are a part. Thank you to everyone involved.

Salt-N-Pepa’s here, and they’re in effect: On this episode, @annkpowers and @artsorority discuss 1987’s “Push It,” with insights on breath as percussion, the thematic resonance between dance songs and sex songs, the secret narrative of the “Macarena” and the argument that it’s not what you say that matters in pop music, but how you say it.

I am a nerd and nothing brings me more pleasure than digging around in an archive. Today's research: The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Here's a poem a student at Hobart College wrote upon graduation in 1977. So much '70s in one short text!
Great Food with Eric’s Hands hit up our neighborhood’s amazing new food truck court @lostandfoundnash and found the food delish and the scene totally hopping. Must love toddlers! So many there but also couples on dates, dog owners, millennial girl gangs and of course boys with mustaches and mullets. Fun times!
I look very somber but had a great time giving the Dudley Memorial Lecture on protest music at @corcoran_gw last night. Thanks to @laurenonkey@jillbritt0n and all who came!
Seriously is there a better rock star in 2026 than @yelyahwilliams ? I”ll wait. The Ryman crowd certainly thinks she is the top. And it’s both very feminist and very Nashville to invite @anniedirusso onstage to do one of HER songs.
Love this one so much. She has been so great negotiating the transition from undergrad to future grad student and her new pad is fantastic, in a hopping neighborhood! See you soon @sadisticvalues
