We’re excited to welcome @tinaoppceramics from North Dakota to Starflower Studios for a two week Artist Residency this June! While she’s in Bellingham, she’s going to share some of her specialized skills with our community in a hands-on workshop.
In this 4-hour workshop, participants will explore ways to complicate and enrich ceramic surfaces through mark making and texture development. We will investigate surface textures and discuss how they hold stories and suggest time passing. The workshop will include demonstrations, discussion, and hands-on experimentation. Bring your curiosity, favorite carving tools, and a sack lunch.
Added bonus! Meet the artist and examine her wondrous ceramic works up close at the opening reception of her Featured Artist exhibition at @goodearthpottery on June 26th from 4-6pm during Fairhaven 4th Friday Art Walk!

As much as I love the vibrant, glossy glazes I’ve started using on my pottery, I also feel a strong tug towards the subtlety and softness of raw porcelain with just a hint of color to enhance the carving. There’s something soothing in it. I lightly sand it to make the surface satiny—and this clay literally glows.✨
