When I was 14, I used to go to my school library and borrow a VHS of Abigailâs Party. Iâd take it home and watch Alison Steadmanâs Beverly Moss again and again đ
Only later did I understand â it was a masterclass.
Not âtrying to be funnyâ â just being truthful.
She never plays Beverly as a joke. She plays a woman completely certain sheâs sophisticated, emotionally aware and the perfect hostess⌠and thatâs exactly why itâs both hilarious and painfully familiar.
The genius lives in the small things â the listening, talking over people, the over-hospitality, the social climbing, the need to impress. Every moment feels real because it came from observation and improvisation.
