In de eerste aflevering van Wat een leven ga ik in gesprek met @annelous ! Voormalig wereldkampioen freestyle én bronzen medaillewinnares op de Spelen in Parijs met kitefoilen, twee totaal verschillende disciplines die eigenlijk alleen de kite met elkaar delen.
We hadden een supermooi gesprek over aanpassing, verandering en omgaan met tegenslagen. Annelous heeft die uitdagingen om weten te zetten in haar kracht (kleine spoiler: daardoor studeert ze nu psychologie).
Verder staat ze nu op een bijzonder punt in haar carrière, ze heeft net aangekondigd te gaan stoppen met topsport en ze word ook nog eens moeder!

Celebrated 10 years of @teamkpnsportfonds today, a foundation that supports upcoming sports teams with limited financial resources but big ambitions. Thanks to their help we got that extra boost we needed at the start of our campaign towards the Paris Olympics and it helped us to take the step towards the top 8 in the world. Hope to see this great foundation continue helping sport teams chase their dreams in the next years! This kind of support is crucial for athletes, especially from smaller sports, to achieve the results needed for better funding.

Ik heb besloten te stoppen met topsport en niet meer voor LA28 te gaan. Hoewel ik nog steeds enorm geniet van mijn sport en de wedstrijden, merk ik dat ik op dit moment in mijn leven er te veel voor moet opofferen. Nog 3 jaar alles opzijzetten voelt niet meer juist.
Dit jaar heb ik onderzocht of er een andere manier was om deze olympische campagne vorm te geven, maar om écht voor nog een medaille te gaan zou ik meer van huis moeten zijn dan dat ik bereid ben.
Ik kijk terug op een fantastische tijd vol mooie momenten met geweldige mensen. Ik wil iedereen bedanken die mij gesteund, aangemoedigd en gevolgd heeft in deze reis.
Wat de toekomst brengt? We zullen zien. Eén ding is zeker: mijn passie voor het water blijft. Ik hoop betrokken te blijven bij de watersport in Nederland en zal natuurlijk alle teamallianz sporters blijven aanmoedigen!

🇬🇧 I‘ve made the decision to hang up my competition jersey and not go for LA28. Even though I still enjoy my sport and competing so much, at this point in my life I would have to sacrifice too much. Another 3 years of putting everything aside just doesn’t feel right anymore.
This year I explored if there was another way to do this Olympic campaign, but to truly go for a medal again I’d still need to be away from home more than I’m willing to.
I look back on an amazing time full of beautiful moments shared with incredible people. Thank you to everyone who has supported, encouraged, and followed me throughout this journey.
What the future will bring? We’ll see. One thing’s for sure: my passion for the water remains. I hope to stay involved in watersports in the Netherlands and I’ll continue to be cheering for all teamallianz athletes!
