Last chance Friday 💥 Folding Nations is on view Friday–Sunday, 1–5 pm at @sydhavnstation 🔥– the final weekend before the exhibition closes. 254 hand-folded planes, painted with flags from all recognized states and territories, form a fragmented image of a world in geopolitical tension.
The paper plane, usually associated with movement and freedom, is here grounded and weighed down by its own materiality. In the space, they meet etched copper plates where borders from conflicts appear as shifting, overlapping traces.
A quiet yet insistent installation about identity, belonging, and a fragile world order. In the installation, I work with copper plates where borders from wars and conflicts are incised and etched as overlapping traces, shifts, and ruptures. The lines do not appear as fixed divisions, but as something in motion—negotiated and unstable.
According to the Uppsala Conflict Data Program, 61 state-based conflicts and 11 wars were recorded in 2024, with disputes over national borders as a direct cause. These borders form a concrete backdrop for the works. Copper is a living material that continues to change over time. The surface slowly oxidizes, allowing the work to evolve. The installation consists of 254 hand-folded porcelain planes, each painted with a national flag from all recognized states and dependent territories registered in ISO 3166-1.
