For over a decade, Rob and I read novels aloud to our kids every night. We read over 150 books together through the years. I kept the tradition going after Rob died, and it anchored our evenings as we adjusted to the loneliness of nights without him.
Years later, I’m pretty sure my kids have turned out to be the kind of people writer Anna Quindlen @annaqwrites describes, “people who think decorating consists mostly of building enough bookshelves.” There are many legacies of Rob that I’m glad endure, and certainly one of those is his voracious love of reading. I’m glad his books still grace our shelves. I’m glad our kids spent happy hours with books in hand. I’m glad that bookshelves count as decor in our house, and always will!
