GRANADA. No filters used. My 4th stop on the Andalusian roadtrip Finally I got to see this wonder of the world, the second UNESCO world heritage site on this trip. The ALHAMBRA. Words cannot express the overflowing emotions I felt stepping onto the balconies of the Generalife, the summer palace, the floating architecture, the enchanting ornaments and views of the city and the snow covered mountains of Sierra Nevada. 3. Stop on my Andalusian roadtrip was RONDA! By chance I happened to check into the very same hotel that the poet Rilke had stayed at, and there was even a statue of him on the terrace and a little shrine with his desk and various work materials inside. The town boasts ancient Arab baths, a roman acqueduct and spectacular walking trails and a marvellous restaurant @restaurantebardal by @benito_bardal endlessly creative in textures and flavours yet never forgetting the food’s Andalucian roots which I just had to treat myself to after my 5 hour hike. On my way to Granada I stopped off in one of the enchanting white villages Setenil de las Bodegas, many houses hewn into the rock. 2nd stop on my Andalucía roadtrip was: CÁDIZ. I stumbled upon this gem of a church, the Oratio de la Santa Cueva where Haydn‘s Seven Last Words were world premiered and heard by Manuel de Falla in his youth, and marvelled at two wall paintings by Goya. The archeological collection was compact but stupendous and one could visit a Roman theatre as well. Outside of town 1 1/2 hours south is a spectacular Roman excavation site Baelo Claudia just off one of the most beautiful beaches. On the way to my next destination of Ronda I passed Gibraltar and got my first view of Africa from the other side. Morocco is so close! #ontour #operasingersofinstagram #archeology #history #haydn

The beauty of opera and especially a timelessly brilliant piece like Le Nozze di Figaro is how variable the decorative approach can be. In the midst of a riveting rehearsal process brimming with creativity where a surreal set is filled with overflowing extravagance and finely choreographed movement with Marta Pazos 💙🩵💙🩵💙 at the Gran Teatre del @liceu_opera_barcelona I stumbled upon this teaser clip for my then third Susanna in Sven-Eric Bechtolfs bustling production @salzburgerfestspiele set in a 1920s manour house where the audience could look into every room ensuing in parallel action and a different sort of intricacy. Aside of @realadamplachetka , Luca Pisaroni, Anne Murray and @paul_schweinester , wonderful to see the footage of @anett.fritsch , again my Countess here in Barcelona. In the summer I will return to the festival for an exciting concert programme with the ensemble @klangforum_wien and Matthias Pintscher at the Kollegienkirche on the 1st of August surrounding two Russian language song cycles by György Kurtág. Throwback to the week before rehearsals started in Barcelona… First stop on my roadtrip through Andalucía: SEVILLE. Location to many operas including the Barber of Seville , The Marriage of Figaro (!) and Carmen. I even visited Rosina‘s balcony, the statue of Don Juan and even the cigar factory which inspired Mérimée for Carmen. Aside of the buzzing yet relaxed atmosphere, the sheer beauty of the architecture and the delectable culinary delights I managed to see a UNESCO world heritage site, the Alcázar in all its moorish and mudejar splendour, featured on screen for example in @gameofthrones . After an incredible roadtrip across Andalucía (the photos are coming…) I have begun my second production at the grand @liceu_opera_barcelona , after Mozart‘s Requiem last year: now Le Nozze di Figaro as Susanna. This first week has already been a tempestuous journey through the first two acts with a new director for me, Marta Pazoss, an incredible person, endlessly creative artist and energy source for all of us. We have movement and dance every day and Maestro @giovanni_antonini_official keeps us on our toes on all things phrasing, dynamics, language and dramaturgy of the text. After many productions for me a completely fresh reading. I am so delighted to be reunited for the third time with my Countess @anett.fritsch after Salzburg and Udine, with @samuelhasselhorn finally in a full new production after a brief encounter in these roles in Berlin and meeting brilliant new colleagues like @mercedes_gancedo and @balibasss . We have a host of wonderful assistants all bringing their own ingredients to this intricate recipe. La Fundación Juan March continúa con el ciclo "O sweet song: de Byrd a Purcell" y en esta ocasión le tocaba el turno a Byrd y la canción inglesa con consort 👏👏👏 Lo mejor de todo fue volver a ver a Anna Prohaska con un repertorio totalmente renacentista en inglés como antesala del barroco inglés de Henry Purcell y Haendel 😍😍😍 Anna Prohaska había estado recientemente en el ciclo de lied del Teatro de La Zarzuela con un repertorio completamente distinto 😊😊😊 Un lujo haber disfrutado de ese programa inglés tan poco conocido en España a cargo de la formación inglesa Phantasm 👏👏👏 #fundacionjuanmarch #annaprohaska #phantasm #byrd #henrypurcell

Wenn Prohaska „Ich fühle Luft von anderem Planeten“ singt und ihre Stimme dabei fast lautmalerisch in Luft aufgeht, lässt das Stück seine eigene Grammatik vollends hinter sich. When Prohaska sings „I feel air from another planet“ and her voice almost onomatopoeically dissolves into air, the piece completely abandons its own grammar. Tagesspiegel What an experience to return to the @berlinphil concert series with Schönberg‘s 2nd String Quartet now with the Varian Fry Quartet after having debuted this piece 19 years ago in the Kammermusiksaal with the Karajan-Akademie under the inspiring mentorship of former member Jan Diesselhorst ✝️ - full circle. Over the years I have sung it many times in various places, from Salzburg to Weimar, Leipzig to London, recorded it with the Breuninger Quartet, but the home turf at the Philharmonie will always be special. Fascinating how a piece can marinate in one‘s mind, soul and voice. Thus she managed to bring closer what seemed distant, the related yet remote similarities of the musical eras and aesthetics becoming aware. After literally only just having got back from Canada last Sunday I managed to rehearse a massive Charles Ives +++ recital programme with the undauntingly brilliant @pierrelaurentaimard for my first outing @teatrodelazarzuela for El Ciclo de Lied, a recital series in its 32nd year! @cndm_inaem In between I had flown to sunny Milan for one day of rehearsals and a smashing pracitse session at La Scala! Monday morning I left the hotel in Madrid at 10am and somehow ended up at the southernmost tip of Korea 🇰🇷 My first time in this great country of music! 22hours later. A stopover in Hong Kong 🇭🇰 also for the first time and I couldn‘t resist a delicious wonton soup in the lounge for breakfast at 7am. A shorter flight to Busan and 1 1/2 hr taxi journey later I finally arrived at the gorgeous hotel and managed to stay up until a decent bedtime through jogging by the seaside, sauna & whirlpool and a delicious Bulgogi hot pot with all the trimmings.
