A page from "Measuring Up" written by @jennylacika . Since Oliver Smoot was literally turned into a unit of measurement, it felt right to reference da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man, where the human body becomes the blueprint for measurement and proportion. ✨

Cover and hand lettering for @emiliechristieburack new book “Dominic Bean and the Mammoth Melt” coming out this September from @groundwoodbooks . I had previously illustrated a cover for Emilie’s book “The Runaway’s Gold” so it was a treat to create art for her newest story. The interior art includes a map and 8 black and white illustrations. Scroll for the rough cover concept and the hand lettering work in progress ✨

Character explorations of the creature from “Lila Makes a Monster” by @laurieelmquist @orcabook . The creature had to look like it was made from found objects in the house by Lila, yet still have a human like appearance. The initial approach was closer in direction to the classic look of Frankenstein’s monster, but we ended up with a softer, friendlier and more playful design that went better with the tone of the story.
