Look at this!! 💙 I took this photo of Foula from the hilltop of Scalloway in my native home Shetland a few years ago. My best friend @nannataittrondra asked me to make her a cyanotype picture with one of my Curlew drawings for her cooker splashback. Her son @keirynntopp rendered it and created this stunning piece of glass. I am beyond thrilled with how it looks. What a fantastic commission to be asked for. Thank you to Amanda and Keirynn. 🤗💙 #curlew #Shetland #cyanotype #Foula

Happy International Women's Day! 🥳 I am a lucky lady with supportive women in my family, this is my Mam, Shirley with me. I've been blessed with so many talented and creative women in my life, who have employed me for work, supported and bought my art, and have helped shape my career, especially since moving to Sligo. If it wasn't for these wonderful women I wouldn't be the Artist and Photographer I am. 🙏 Thank you to everyone single one of you, here and passed on, and my apologies if I've left out names... Bríd Festival Sligo — Hyde Bridge Gallery Exhibition open now. My work in this exhibition is to raise awareness of the very low numbers, near to extinction, of native Irish Curlews. Based on recent data, it is estimated that there are now approximately 95 to 105 breeding pairs of native Curlew remaining in the Republic of Ireland. When I started this project in 2019, there were 123 breeding pairs recorded in Ireland. Destroyed marshlands and breeding areas, habitat loss from agricultural intensification, land drainage, and afforestation, alongside high rates of predation on eggs and chicks by foxes and crows, there are so many factors working against the curlews existence. I would like to thank Lorely Forrester for her beautiful poem 'Curlew' and allowing me to use it in a film piece for this exhibition. I would also like to thank Frame It, Póilín McGowan for her expertise framing the pieces. Cían Flynn Photography for helping me with the Curlews for the film piece. Tabby O Callaghan for the sound for the film piece. David Behan for his photography of the curlews, birds.ie Catherine Fanning for her curation. The QR code will bring you to a link on Vimeo to watch 'Where The Curlew Once Sang' 🪶🤎💙 This exhibition 'Holding Ground' is a highlight event of Bríd Festival Sligo 2026, presenting a powerful group exhibition inspired by St Brigid as a figure of renewal and marking Imbolc as a time of transition, awakening and care. Rooted in the spirit of Brigid, this exhibition explores acts of ecological, cultural and personal care, positioning women’s creative practices at a threshold between nature and culture, past and future. Here, the act of making becomes an act of tending, holding and sustaining — a quiet but vital form of resistance, connection and continuity. Through diverse artistic approaches, Holding Ground invites audiences to reflect on the ways we nurture what matters, protect what is fragile, and imagine new futures grounded in care. The exhibition highlights women’s creative practices as a dialogue with the environment, exploring our connection to the land and the ways making can nurture, protect, and sustain the natural world.
