1. What got you into ceramics?
My mom did ceramics when she was younger and studied art in college. I've always been impressed with her artistic ability. I grew up with her sculptures and paintings around the house and it influenced my decision to go into a creative field. My background is in architecture and I've always had creative hobbies like sewing, drawing, and knitting. She bought classes for me a couple of years ago as a Christmas gift after I said I was interested, and I've been hooked ever since.
2. What inspires you?
My mom and her artwork, symmetry in nature, traditional Mexican Talavera, Dutch Delft, and Polish Bolesławiec pottery, craftsman architecture, mid-century modern artwork, and the architecture of Antoni Gaudí. The whole concept of creating something functional and beautiful from nothing but an idea blows my mind.
3. What do you like doing outside of the ceramic studio?
I'm very into my barre studio, Barre3, exploring all of the breweries and coffee shops in San Diego, going to see live music, knitting and crocheting, crafting of any kind, and traveling. We're going to Nice, France in September where my husband will be competing in the Ironman World Championships!
4. What objects would you bring with you to the afterlife?
A device that would play my Spotify playlists, a very long book, yarn and a crochet hook, a sketchbook and pencil, and maybe a musical instrument like a guitar or piano to learn for all of eternity.
