In the aftermath of the LA fires, homeowners in the disaster zone tell NBC News they have been routinely held up in their remediation efforts thanks in large part to one issue: their insurance adjuster, the person responsible for managing their claim, keeps changing. For the latest installment of the NBC Nightly News series “Cost of Denial,” we bring you the story of Stephanie Newport, a State Farm policyholder, who says she has been assigned seven different adjusters in the past five months.
State Farm tells NBC News, when there’s a catastrophe of this size “it may mean that multiple team members assist with a claim.” Newport believes it’s a tactic to stall and push off paying her claim — something she says one adjuster even suggested.
“One of them had said, don’t let them tell you, no, just keep pushing,” Newport said, “because they’re hoping you’re going to give up.”
And Newport is not alone. NBC News spoke to five other LA wildfire victims covered by State Farm who say they’re experiencing a similar pattern.

Threw my Yaya a jeopardy themed birthday party based on her life. 10/10 recommend. Will never forget the way she lit up. One of my favorite fun facts about her:
Category: Life History for $1000
Clue: Yaya is a citizen of these countries.
Answer: What is Turkey, Canada, and the United States of America?
Happy birthday to my favorite immigrant.
