Many of my reflections on the wonder of womanhood are inspired by my mother.
It was a mother’s love that created my first studio. White bed sheets draped over a doorway and aluminium foil wrapped around a cardboard box were innovative solutions dreamed up by her to actualise my dream of a ‘professional’ studio; a real photographer must have professional lighting and a seamless backdrop after all 💁🏾♀️ (or so I thought at 16).
Women have always been inventors. Mixing a cupful of creativity with a gram of necessity and a drop of uniqueness, they create and innovate solutions big and small. Computer algorithms, GPS, dishwashers, toys, personal style or a budding photographer’s first studio- all these are incredible inventions by women.
