Laminar Flow of water done in After Effects.
A couple of weeks back I noticed how water flowed down a glass surface and thought I’d try recreating it in After Effects.
It’s finally done with a bunch of effects including displacement maps, wide time, transform effect etc.
Things I tried to replicate
1. The warping
2. Different layers of water over each other creating a layered warp effect. It’s quite subtle here because I didn’t want to effects to completely distort the image below.
3. Laminar flow of water.

“What if I don’t like Butterflies?”
Another @gunnerschool assignment!
I had the choice to choose whatever logo I wanted and I thought why not try out Bluesky’s butterfly logo.
Bluesky is an open-source, decentralized
microblogging social media platform.
While researching their branding I came across a quote from their CEO on his blog.
“The great thing about an open network is that anyone can build on top of it and customize it further! Maybe you like birds more. Well, someone could build BirdSky, and you could switch to using that and still be in the same network, still have the same friends, and still
see the same posts.”
Inspired from the quote I took the 3 motifs selected and visualise them as portals to the expressive mind of
the user. Social media after all is a tool to express and Bluesky is a different kind that provides a higher level
of freedom.
The idea is to arrive at the original logo of The Butterfly all the while showing different visuals consistent with the user interface inside the motifs. However I had to scrap that owing to time constraints.
I’m still incredibly happy how this turned out.

I decided to take a step back and enrol in @gunnerschool . After more than 10 years I reached a crossroad and felt stuck. So I decided to head back to the drawing board. Reassess everything and I couldn’t find a better place than here!
