After hearing a gunshot ring out close by, caring citizens found a mother kangaroo. When they reached her, she was dead, but the joey in her pouch was still alive — too small to survive for long on her own. They quickly bundled her up and took her to safety at Adelaide Hills Kangaroo Rescue. They named her Bambi. ❤️‍🩹 Around Australia, millions of kangaroos are killed every year, either for their skin and other body parts, or by land managers who use their habitat to graze introduced species. Heartbreakingly, the only law the shooter broke was not killing Bambi as well. Under the code of practice, joeys like her can legally be bludgeoned to death after their mothers are shot. And if that doesn’t happen, many are simply left behind — to die slowly, alone and starving. Bambi deserved better. And so does every kangaroo trying just to exist in the place they’ve always called home.

Watch this ex-research beagle find her voice in her new home 🥹 @beaglefreedomaustralia is working to release dogs like Doli from research facilities and helping them adjust to their new lives through a purpose built ‘Real Room’, supported by one of Animals Australia’s High Impact Grants. 🧡

Since we launched our online action less than two weeks ago to help protect Glenbog State Forest and the abundant wildlife who call it home, more than 12,000 caring people have spoken out — using the letter writing tool on our website to contact their local MP and Forestry Corp. When we first told you about this situation, the bulldozers were coming the very next day. Now, we have confirmation that the starting date has been pushed back to 1 June. The delay is welcome news for wildlife, but in order to keep them safe for more than just a few more weeks, we must keep the pressure on. Every message, and every voice speaking up for animals is making a difference. If you haven't already, tap @animalsaustralia and click the link in our bio to take action for these precious native animals. And please, share this with a friend who loves wildlife too. 🌳

For generations, Sir David Attenborough has invited people to look at the world, and all those who call it home, with wonder and respect. Today, on his 100th birthday, we’re grateful for the perspective he’s shared with us all. 🧡

They long for play and affection, instead they are tethered and fitted with masks. 💔 What’s happening to beagles in toxicity testing laboratories for everyday pharmaceuticals and household products is something most people had no idea about. Until now. But new evidence out of the UK is shining a light on this secretive global industry and mobilising people across the world to speak out. Tap @animalsaustralia and click the link in our bio to take action for beagles now.

Glenbog State Forest is a critical habitat for the endangered greater glider, and yet these native animals could soon lose their homes and their lives. Forestry Corporation NSW plans to destroy this forest imminently, and reduce this thriving ecosystem to low value woodchips, pallets and firewood to be exported. Recent surveys have identified over 130 greater glider den trees, but Forestry Corp has acknowledged only 4 of them, meaning the vast majority of animals living inside these trees are likely to be killed when they are cut down. Hollow-bearing trees can take hundreds of years to form. To bulldoze them is irreversible. Please help us stop this now. Comment PROTECT WILDLIFE below and we will send you everything you need to take action for them. Thank you 🌳

Animal experimentation began centuries ago when other animals were widely considered biological machines, incapable of thought or feeling. We now know animals are sentient and experience pain, distress, and fear. Each species is unique, including humans, in their biology and in how they react to chemicals and other substances. What’s happening to animals in laboratories is outdated and unscientific. Modern, human-relevant technology is already available, and together we can press to ensure it is urgently adopted. Tap @animalsaustralia and click the link in our bio to help us end animal toxicity tests and bring science into the 21st century now.

UPDATE: As of Monday afternoon, there are no bulldozers at Glenbog State Forest, giving the wildlife who live there another night of peace. But this could change any day. We urgently need to increase feedback from the community to ensure decision makers understand how many people oppose this killing of wildlife. The link to the action page is in our page bio, but we can also send you the link directly if you comment PROTECT WILDLIFE on this post. We need your help to keep the pressure on. Thank you 🌳

In the aftermath of the Victorian bushfire disaster this year, countless animals were left injured, displaced, and alone. Strawberry was one of them. 🦘 This little kangaroo joey, only months old, had lost her mother and somehow survived on her own for several days in the burned landscape. She was found and rescued by first responders in the field, who called on us for help. Our Vets for Compassion and Animals Australia Veterinary Emergency Team were deployed in the Harcourt area ready to help animals just like her. Strawberry was brought to us, and our vets got to work. Her feet were burned, she was dehydrated, underweight, and exhausted from days spent alone. Our vets gently sedated her, carefully cleaned and dressed her wounds, and gave her the fluids and pain relief her little body desperately needed. Strawberry was then transferred to Five Freedoms Animal Rescue in Trentham, where she could begin the long road to recovery with the ongoing support of our vets. Slowly, day by day, Strawberry grew stronger. 🍓 Today, she’s growing strong, her burns have healed beautifully, and she’s found comfort in the company of other orphaned joeys in care. After everything she endured, she’s safe. Sadly though, the fate of countless animals was very different to hers during the Victorian bushfire disaster this year. Many were killed by the fires or in the aftermath, and it’s in their honour, as well as for joeys like Strawberry, that we will continue our critical work for animals during disasters. Thank you to @easttrenthamwildlifeshelter for giving Strawberry the round-the-clock love she needed to heal. 💙
