it’s Feria de Sevilla (Feria de Abril) and I get to walk around in a flamenco dress for a few days in one of my favourite places on earth, my feet may be wrecked, i may be running on minimal sleep but i’m inspired and i’m in #spain 😍 #feria #feriadesevilla #feriadeabril #flamenca

polish immigrant 🤝🏼 polish american, both working overtime to get to know our roots, culture and traditions and share them with the world (and our own people 😆) If you’re an immigrant of any kind, you may notice that when you go back home, people often seem to lose touch with their culture in favor of outside influences. Meanwhile, those who left (or were born outside their motherland) often cling tightly to the traditions that define them at their core. Why is it always like that? #zakopane #góral #immigrant #polish #polska

|More in Caption| What I learned about #FeriadeAbril in #Sevilla after attending for the last three years #feria #flamenco 1. The Feria starts two weeks after Easter Sunday and marks the official start to Feria season in Spain that goes until mid October 2. The Feria starts with the lighting of the Portada at midnight on Monday (this day has changed in the past so it’s important to keep updated on the official schedule), there is a big opening show and celebration 3. The portada changes every year and is the main entrance to the Feria grounds 4. There is no admission fee to attend, Feria is FREE for everyone 5. Even though the opening hours are 12pm - 3am the grounds don’t get busy until later in the day, so don’t feel like you have to be there early. The party really starts when the sun goes down and goes well into the morning hours 6. All the horses leave at 8pm and the grounds are taken over by foot traffic 7. Feria has two sections, the midway and the casetas, which are mostly private tents belonging to families or businesses that entertain their special guests but there are public ones you can go into, you can order food and drinks and dance to live music 8. Feria’s drink of choice is the Rebujito, a sherry x sprite cocktail which they sell by the Litre 9. Women wear flamenco dresses and men wear suits or the traditional Andalusian cowboy outfit 10. There is an entire Flamenco fashion week leading up to Feria so women can start ordering their designer dresses with plenty of time to spare 11. When you get dressed tor Feria keep in mind that you WILL get your feet dirty so choose footwear wisely, all the women wear espadrilles which are inexpensive and accessible at almost every shoe store in Seville, do NOT wear your nice shoes when coming here, they will get covered with horse poop, yellow dirt and water. Espadrilles trully save lives 12. The busiest days at Feria are the opening night, Tuesday and Wednesday, when the locals get a day off work to celebrate. this is also when you’ll see the best outfits 13. Nobody dresses in Flamenco for the lighting of the Portada. The locals dress more casually as the week goes on (continued in comments)

I hope 10 doesn’t get me in trouble 🤣 a look at all of the special category fallas (and one of the most popular ninot subjects that appeared in almost all of them in one way or another) each of these monuments cost between €100,000-€260,000 to create, just to be set on fire after 4 days of being assembled 😱 truly one of the wildest festivals there is for this reason alone. can you tell what social commentary each engages in? #fallas #fallasdevalencia #valencia #falles #spain
