An unforgettable evening at The Angus Barn 🇺🇸 We were truly honored to welcome the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne Chorus to the Angus Barn this evening before their performance at the @angusbarnpavilion . Their talent, presence, and service made for a very special night, and we are grateful they chose to give Van and our team a preview of a few of the songs they would be singing at the event. To all the mothers…., I’d like to express my personal appreciation of you. A mother’s love is pretty much indescribable; however, allow me to try. A mother is someone who is willing to put aside many of her personal dreams and aspirations because Motherhood means her life is no longer only about herself. Her main concerns are about the safety, health, happiness and success of her children. It is, without a doubt the most important job in the world. How else would we learn about unselfish behavior, kindness, taking care of someone when they are sick, responsibilities, listening skills, teaching how to problem solve, table manners, “manners” in general, how to be firm but fair... this list could go on and on… For those of you who have been blessed to have a mother like this, if you are able, please reach out to her, to let her know what a difference she made in your life. If your Mother is no longer here, close your eyes, picture her love, and say a prayer of gratefulness for her. With warmest regards, Van

EVERY day is Earth Day at the Angus Barn. For decades Van has been an industry leader for minimizing what restaurants send to a landfill. Follow along to see how we are able to keep our trash to only one small dumpster for our entire restaurant. ♻️ 🌎 Not only do we follow basic recycling guidelines, and use paper to-go products, but we compost as much of our food trash as possible, as well donating meat scraps to local wildlife conservancy programs. *More about our bees in another post 🐝 #EarthDay #TheAngusBarn #AngusBarn #Ncrla #wraloutandabout

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our last surviving founder, Flo Winston. Alongside Thad and Alice Eure, Flo and Charles Winston co-founded The Angus Barn, as well as several other landmark businesses across North Carolina. A true creative force, Flo brought warmth, vision, and genuine hospitality to everything she touched. When The Angus Barn opened in June 1960, its location was considered far beyond the edge of Raleigh—so rural that many questioned whether it would survive. Yet within just a few years, it became a destination, known for its hearty fare and welcoming spirit, capturing the hearts of a growing community. In February 1964, the restaurant was tragically destroyed by fire. Undeterred, the Eures and Winstons rebuilt within a year—this time, bigger and better—laying the foundation for the enduring institution it is today. In 1983, Charles Winston, Sr. sold his portion of the Angus Barn to Thad Eure. However, the strong friendship between the two families continues to this day. In 2011, Charles and Flo Winston were inducted into the Raleigh Hall of Fame, recognized for their entrepreneurial success and lasting contributions to local charities and the community. In honor of Flo Winston, flags at The Angus Barn have been lowered to half-staff.

Some businesses are built. Others are grown — passed down through families who believe that how you treat people matters more than any balance sheet. What a powerful Legacy Luncheon the @centerforprivatebusiness held recently at the @angusbarnpavilion ! Over 200 guests enjoyed a steak lunch while listening to the passion of the families behind the Angus Barn and Winston’s Grille. Both businesses have survived recessions, pandemics, and changing markets by investing in relationships with guests, with staff, with community. And entrepreneurship and philanthropy aren’t separate. Both Van and the @winstonsgrille team have been changemakers in Raleigh far beyond their dining rooms, and we look forward to seeing more of the same from this next generation in the future.
