Cambodians have endured generations of pain our land stolen, our people uprooted by war, and a genocide that reshaped our identity and scattered our families across the world. Yet despite everything, we are rebuilding. Our communities are growing, our nation is healing, and we are finally finding our strength again.
So why this new conflict? Why these false accusations and renewed tension with Thailand over land, over a temple which was bombed, over stories that twist the truth? Cambodia has no desire for war. Our military is small, our focus is on development, on building ports, discovering our own resources, and simply securing a future for our people. We are trying to exist, not provoke.
Accusations about new landmines ignore the painful history of unexploded ordnance already left behind by past powers. And if an explosion occurred, perhaps you should have stayed on your side of the border. Blaming Cambodia does not fix internal political issues, nor does it justify stirring nationalism through fear and misinformation.
We have never sought to take from Thailand and only to partner. But history cannot be erased, Thai adopted our culture, language, writting system which originated from Cambodia. During the fall of Angkor borders shifted, identities rewritten. Colonization from the French with established borders. We accepted it and moved forward with pride in who we are and what we’ve survived.
We are not collateral damage from your internal issues. We are a people who have paid dearly for peace. And all we ask is to be allowed to rise, rebuild, and live.
