"my work of body " digital collage 2026
for my final photography project i explored the relationship between myself as an artist and my artwork through photography and digital collage. as a traditional artist my methodology is very different from most photographers; i don’t try to depict or capture reality, but instead try to express internal thoughts and feelings through pure visuals. i fully believe in art as expression, that it should not be hindered to a single technique or style, and i view my own life in a similar way. the way in which I paint and draw is reflective of how i move in my life, not an escape from it. in noticing this connection i wanted to pose a question: at one point does the artist end and the art begin? using photographs of my art and myself, i combined the images through an intuitive process, seeing what visual aspects of my art and body conflicted or correlated, and arranging them in a way that felt most natural. in order to make the collage, i had to dismember both my art and my body and reassemble them to create a representative piece of work. how much of the art and the artist gets lost in the presentation? there is a notion that art must be separated from the artist, and while i don’t necessarily disagree with this notion from a viewer’s perspective, i believe that an artist having a deep understanding of the relationship between themselves and their work is crucial to their creative process as well as the quality of said work. that is what I aimed to do in this project - to explore the connection between my body and body of work, to make that connection visible. my art is scratchy, messy, often abstract, because i don’t use art to polish reality; i use it to show its truths in a visceral way. i hope that this work inspires other people to understand the intimate relationship between an artist and their work; art is an extension of oneself, and that likeness always shows to some degree, intentional or otherwise. when people see art in public or private, i want them to consider and ponder the background of the artist, to wonder how a person’s experiences can grow into a tangible, visual body of work.

my sweet baby Gracie 🕊️
this is the very first drawing i've ever done of my dog, Gracie, who passed away in october. we grew up with each other, there was never truly an Ange without a Gracie. she wasn't a pet to me in any way; she was the sister i never had and my absolute best friend. sometimes she was my only friend, and she loved me more than anyone else. she was the foundation my world and sense of self was built upon. losing her was like losing half of my heart and soul. when her time came, i knew i had to draw her, but i put it off for months because even just thinking about her for a few seconds made me sob. and it still does - i cried uncontrollably the entire time i drew this portrait.
it's my favorite drawing i've ever made. to me, it's perfect, because she was perfect.
i love you and miss you forever Gracie.
