💃🪩From the dance floor to the factory floor...🏭 When I’m not doing West Coast Swing, you’ll find me in the fashion industry—not as a model on the runway, or as a designer of the new season collection though, but as a sustainability and circularity fighter to make them better. My work is to ensure that what you wear on your skin comes from the healthiest, most responsible sources and systems possible. This isn’t about glamor. It’s about getting our hands dirty, literally. We are manufacturers in the global value chain, working to research, develop, produce and supply functional, sustainable and circular fabrics. We are the ones making sure that your favorite sneakers, activewear or work uniforms are coming from the cleanest and greenest supply chain available. And this week, we took center stage. A group of us were featured in @voguebusiness for a bold reason: while many global brands are hitting the brakes on their climate commitments, we manufacturers are hitting the gas. We are a part of the movement to decarbonize fashion, switching from fossil fuels to renewable energy as fast as we can. (“Decarbonisation” means switching from the use of fossil fuels such as coal, natural gas or oil to carbon-free and renewable energy sources as quickly as possible.) But this isn’t a hero’s journey. It’s a fight against the odds. The truth is, without funding, collaboration, and real commitment from the brands we supply, our efforts are at risk of stalling. We can’t do this alone. After a series of Semis and Finals alternates in my Novice division, this time my journey ended in Prelims. Usually, that might sting, but I’m showing up as I am to say: I’m just not the kind of person who can’t keep herself sad for too long. My parents taught me to enjoy the every little joys and small moments in the life. Even though I felt the most confident and aware as ever on the floor than ever before, I’m learning that sometimes things just go differently—and that’s okay. I’m choosing not to over-analyze the “why” and instead just feeling thankful for the continuous growth by our community. I continue to keep working hard with my teachers and mentors, but the goal remains the same: to enjoy this journey which is maybe even one of the most fulfilling journeys on the globe? 🦋 Then do I still have a highlight? No, not just one, but many. Firstly, finally meeting @keeriganr in person! After imagining what a co-creation in dance with you might be like, the reality hit harder—you are a true light and the brightest light of my weekend.🕯️Secondly, watching the Pro-Am spotlights was such another dimension we found ourselves in; experiencing the Pros create such safe, expressive spaces for their Am partners was just pure magic and I kept standing in goosebumps for long minutes. Thirdly, even though my third year here at @asiawcsopen felt a little different on the scoreboard, I feel honored and will never take it for granted to be able to be here, where I spent so much time the past years that it kind of became my third home on the globe. Bonus to all these is that the DJs’ set were a bomb, man. We were fed and treated so well with world-class playlists by you.🌺 This weekend is a reminder for all of us as @weetzeyi also shared that the most magical moments happen off the official scoresheet and in the most unique socials here where still 300 people are dancing until survivor for four consecutive nights. First competition after my right calf tendon partial tear injury at @budafest_wcs where I had a forced rest for a month and a moderated amount of class and practice for another month. This is my second Alternate in Novice Final after my first Alt at @globalgrandprixwcs last December. I’m strengthening and feeling the Alt Club for these series and I’m content with my dancing journey's small and medium milestones. Learning to accept myself for the ‘slowly but surely’ during and after so many propelling events in the avenues of life and in the world–one dance step and dance move at a time. Do you know that we have a “second heart”? Not in our chest, but in our calves. I’ll get to that in a min.🫀👣 I learned this the hard way at @budafest_wcs this year. After a week of incredible comps, dancing and being on the organizational staff at the event, keeping the tradition on the 7th day to dancing into the Sunday 7:24am sunrise over the Buda Castle with my Singaporeans, my right calf gave out with a “gunshot” pop that changed everything. I spent the last 1.5 days in deep pain and beautiful conversations while watching you all until the survivor shots but from the sidelines—which made me just as happy as the dancing itself. But the real lesson started at the hospital: at the Emergency Outpatient Department (Sürgősségi (Járó) Betegellátó Osztály-SBO) in Szeged. I learned that I hadn’t just injured my calf muscle, I had injured my “second heart”. Here into the anatomy of it: Our heart pumps blood down, but getting it back up against gravity is the hard part. That’s where our “calf pump” comes in. Every time our gastrocnemius (the muscle part I ruptured with haematoma) contracts, it squeezes our veins and forces blood back toward our heart. It’s like a tiny heartbeat with our every step. When we walk, dance, or move, we are literally helping our heart do its job. What shaked me most was that they also did ultrasound for the occurrence of thrombosis because deep vein thrombosis occurs in exactly these deep veins of our legs. I can’t appreciate enough the deep caring, most professional medical teamwork I experienced-even in comparison to abroad-under my emergency doctor’s leadership at the SBO in Szeged. My injury was an accumulated result of overusing my legs in a cold ballroom with no recovery time which takes 3-4 weeks now. We met first at @chuckbrowndance Chuck’s Judging training in 2025 here in Budapest, and after a few dances this year, in 2026, we decided to partner up during Europe’s biggest West Coast Swing competition, the Budafest for our division’s the Novice/Intermediate Strictly. Then, we placed 23rd after the Semi-Finals out of 101 pairs with Ilya. I couldn’t be feeling more fulfilled by your solid trust, playful experiments and the beautiful connection that we shared on the dance floor.
