SPOTTED ON K STREET
Spotted on K Street in HEMPHILL's front window is Andy Yoder's newest mosaic sculpture, Ducky.
I see these as relics, objects dug out of landfills in the distant future that we’ll be remembered by. I love all the history associated with mosaic; it reminds me of stained glass, or jade burial masks made by the Aztecs.
~Andy Yoder
Many people take great comfort in the bathroom towels being the same color as the soap, toilet paper, and tiles. It means there is a connection between them, and an environment of order. Home is a place not only of comfort, but of control. This sense of order, in whatever form it takes, acts as a shield against the unpredictability and lurking chaos of the outside world.
Yoder's work is an examination of the different forms this shield takes, and the thinking that lies behind it. He uses domestic objects as the common denominators of our personal environment. Altering them is a way of questioning the attitudes, fears and unwritten rules which have formed that environment and our behavior within it.

Hugely excited to present new work at Mono Practice, in tandem with Phaan Howng’s vibrant paintings! Such a pleasure to work with Ruri Yi, and her thoughtful installation of the work is a wonder. Creating hundreds of laser-cut leaves and the nests was done with the help of The Mix maker space and sculpture department at George Mason University
Hugely excited and grateful after last night’s reception for Overboard at Tysons Corner Center, a high end mall just outside DC. The Tysons team and ArtsFairfax pulled out all the stops to make this happen, with the help of the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Art who is now sponsoring it as a traveling exhibition. Individual sneakers have been placed throughout the mall, where the Barbie sneaker looks ready for its moment! So happy to have these displayed to a broad and diverse audience, with over 4,000,000 visitors between now and the end of the year!
The exhibit runs until mid-January.
Amazing, fun sneaker event yesterday at the Boys and Girls club of Washington DC. Hundreds of free Nikes given to ecstatic kids, with Grammy nominated recording artist Raheem DeVaughn and Slapshot, the Washington Capitals mascot, both of whom pumped even more energy into the kids!
Happy to have an expanded version of Pileup displayed outdoors as part of Cast In Shadow, a 3-person exhibition curated by Vesela Sretenovic of the Phillips Collection. Opening April 22nd, 5-8pm at Studio Klagsbrun, Washington
