When the long-awaited day dawns and the aliens finally arrive on Earth, they might eat us and destroy the planet―or, just maybe, they might share the secrets of the Universe with us. When that time comes, will we be able to cross the communication barrier to beg for our lives? If the aliens do hold out those precious jewels of knowledge, will we even be able to grasp them?

Here is something I have worked really hard on for the past year that is very important. You can read our book online now for free, and spread the pdf far and wide. Printing is finished for North American edition, shipping soon. Printings in Beirut & Europe to follow in the new year. All funds and labor donated from all involved. ❤️

Are you a NYC cartoonist? There are 15 $1500 grants from the Asian American Arts Alliance to create work serving Palestinian communities. They want comics. Deadline Jan 7, 2025. Go to their website and look for the What Can We Do grant.

If you want a book of seriously good nonfiction comics that speaks to the present moment in the Middle East even as it is unfolding, I recommend my friend Yazan al-Saadi’s new book “Lebanon is Burning,” which just came out. It’s a collection of comic journalism essays about the region, including stories about Syria (Yazan is Syrian-Canadian and grew up in Kuwait), Lebanon, Yemen and Palestine. “Lebanon is Burning” is a chronicle of how the bottled up energy of the 2011 Arab Uprisings only grew over the past decade. I edited many of these pieces when they appeared on The Nib, and Yazan honored me by asking for a blurb (my first!). Seeing them collected is a powerful thing. This is the best kind of work.

MY NEW BOOK COMES OUT TOMORROW AND IT IS CALLED SPICES AND SPUDS! Lithub, Kirkus and School Library Journal all think it's cool! Maybe you will too? My book is about plants, it is not about politics. Give yourself a little break and read about tulips.
