My sister Juli, her husband Nate, and my wife Tara and I closed our eyes and plugged our nose and jumped in way over our heads….
Our families teamed up and bought a perfect, not-so-little house, in the most beautiful ancient hilltop town of Cortona… right in the heart of Tuscany.
2,500 years old, the stunning village is older than our country. Hard to believe our charming “new” house once served as a watchtower against foreign intruders from the south, with stunning views over what’s now Umbria and Lake Trasimeno.
Years in the making, it’s been a roller coaster ride to both find and close on this house, with road blocks and delays even since we arrived in Italy Saturday. But when closing day finally got here this morning, our enthusiasm was just squashed by the news that Joyce Craven, 98-year-old grandmother to Juli and I, had passed during the night.
Wiped out out by the emotional swings of the day, and with our stomachs in knots, posting anything about the house seemed trite. But following a steady gray rain here since we landed, our emotions burst just as we were at the Notary offices to close on the house when Heaven opened and welcomed Joyce with a beautiful rainbow, piercing the Tuscan sky over Arezzo.
No words.
So pleased to be able to plug into our Italian roots and be blessed with this life-long dream.
We hope we can share this beautiful Tuscan gem with family and friends alike for years to come.
