A sold out Neptune Theater, 2 giant bags of popcorn, and at least a little hope for Greggheads. New Amato did everything he could to pull the night off course, but Gregg still managed to give the audience something worth holding onto. Even with the chaos, Seattle showed up ready to put the focus back where it belongs: the movies.

remember where you came from.
first time i ever played bass was in middle school orchestra class. i tried bass in high school jazz band but it didnโt take; i wanted to play it loud. so i joined a metalcore band that went nowhere, that broke up because one of our members had a jesus moment & made us cancel our first show days before because our tunes didnโt speak to christ. lol i guess august burns red covers arenโt jesus enough. but in college, i finally got a chance to rock a bass playing in a band with @lazerjames called drunk college kids. we played loud mad and simple. one of our first songs was about adam sandler, inspired by the @red_letter_media review of jack and jill. then liam and i stopped playing for years because of life and graduating and it wasnโt until ekko that i was able to revisit my favorite instrument to play. thatโs how i wound up playing bass on ekkoโs first songs, including our first single transdemic baby. i still remember tracking that shit less than one month after getting my first gender affirming surgery. never thought then weโd wind up playing the finished version of the unreleased adam sandler song years later with mclusky, a band whose work i have revered since i quit jazz band and whose tunes directly inspired transdemic.

I didnโt walk into this night optimistic. Five bands Iโd never seen, in a venue Iโd never shot, all with a head full of static. By the end of it, nothing about my life had dramatically changed, but my batteries were recharged and some of that static was quieted, and that felt like enough.
Every band on the bill showed up and delivered, and @russianblueband alone made the drive worth it. Live music isnโt always a cure-all. Sometimes itโs mandatory maintenance.
