For new visitors, a selection of some comics I’ve edited that you might enjoy. Some are Eisner winners, Hugo winners, New York Times Best Sellers, some have been rereleased as deluxe editions. All of them are rad and created by amazing storytellers. Buy links at andykhouri.com (link in bio).
Electric Balloom, Camden, London. Night three of the Pet Shop Boys’ “Obscure” residency at a small venue, for which they performed only non-hits and non-singles, many for the first time live. No production, no funny hats, no graphics. Just musicians on stage with a fun and informal atmosphere. Johnny Marr joined them for three songs. My first time seeing them in the UK, and the closest I’ll ever get to seeing them perform as they did in their earliest London club days.
I’m so sorry to tell you that little Yoshi passed away peacefully this week after a brief illness. His sister and littermate Harley is healthy but sad. She was with him at the end and remained the strong and beautiful big sister who looked after him every day of his life.
Yoshi was just a few months old when he came home and for 15 years his life was nothing but love and happiness, both giving and receiving. There’s never been a more affectionate and loving dog. Yoshi was always happy, healthy, playful and just the cutest, friendliest dog ever. He gave me so much, more than I can ever express. He was the light of my life.
Thank you to everyone who ever played with him, pet him, let him lick your face, or smiled at him. He loved every second of it and he loved you.
Gorgeous performance by @yeahyeahyeahs at the beautiful @orpheumtheatrela . Loved everything about it, the new versions, the sound, the crowd, the food, just a perfect evening.
Toured the historic @hollyhockhouse . Designed and built by Frank Lloyd Wright in the early 1920s and renovated in 1946, and then restored by Wright’s son Lloyd. It was commissioned as part of a large theatrical space with several buildings. Definitely read about it, it’s very cool. Also LA’s first World Heritage site.
Beautiful remnant of the Mayan Theatre’s golden age. This is painted directly onto a concrete wall on what is now an outdoor stairwell. I’m guessing there didn’t used to be stairs there and that this was a kind of advertisement that could be seen from the sidewalks below.
