The gardens around the farmhouse at Kamshet. Planted May 2025. This visit was to focus more on the wider, 23 acre farm around the house. We set-out the remaining areas of native forest, groves of coconuts between the rice paddies, orchards of mangoes, guava, jackfruit, cashew, star fruit, custard apple among other tropical fruits, the kitchen garden and a few acres of vegetable plots. A major highlight of the trip was learning about the clients charity kitchen initiative in Mumbai where the vast majority of the produce from this land ends up, helping to feed people who endure food scarcity.

A long overdue visit to a garden designed and installed approximately 8 years ago. Very exciting to see the evolution of this garden lovingly cared for by its owner.
A coastal garden in the north of NZ around a holiday home. Very simple in its composition of lawns, Karo hedges and palms (both Howea forsteriana and Chamaedorea costariciana). Planted end of 2024.

A hugely enjoyable two days spent setting out plants and working on the wider landscape of this exquisite farm house in Kamshet, Maharastra. Architectural design by @casedesign.in This project has been a long process hampered by flooding issues and Covid but is finally coming together. The plant palette includes plants adapted to the dry climate and the annual monsoon. Thanks to @ketkalerucha of Case Design for her continued support and effort in realising the landscape. The house is a wonderful demonstration of great design and phenomenal skill of the carpenters and stone masons.
Some photos from the first garden I helped design up in Matakana for @robinbarclay and her husband Simon. The garden is over five years old now and maturing really nicely. The owners are super involved and very experienced gardeners so the perennial planting has evolved and is full of new additions. It’s lovely to stay involved in projects like this especially with clients so invested in the gardening process.
Another spring time garden check-in. This garden in East Auckland was planted around this time last year. Numerous garden rooms full of perennial planting surround the beautiful new home designed by @sumichchaplinarchitects . Growth has been surprisingly fast with a few favourites already seeding around the garden including; Heuchera maxima, Salvia forsskaolii, Aquilegia, Helleborus orientalis and Euphorbia wulfenii. Great to be able to plug gaps with seedlings from the garden.
Checking in on a garden in Matakana that has been planted over the last two years. Planting that is predominantly NZ native species is starting to establish nicely. The primary focus was to embower the house in broad sweeping areas of texture rich planting that echoes the native bush surrounding the property. As the planting matures we are starting to selectively prune the young trees and shrubs to accentuate the layers of canopy, shrub and ground cover.

Just finished the Auckland Garden Designfest. A really wonderful event over the weekend. Lucky to have this garden involved thanks to the generous owners. The garden is nearly two years old and starting to take shape. Nearly 1300 garden enthusiasts over the two days, so fun to share the garden with other plant nerds. Thanks to the @aucklandgardendesignfest for putting together such a successful event. Looking forward to the next one in 2026.
The passages and two flights of staircases connecting four levels of this house were originally all indoor covered spaces. The shell structure inherited by architects @casedesign.in was boldly broken down with significant removal of structure to enable the planting to inhabit the building. An inspired client approved this rather radical idea and gave us the brief to simply plant a wild garden that consumes the building. In collab with @jemhanbury
The roof terraces comprise a major component of the gardens around this vast house. Architects @casedesign.in have enabled planting on every structure where possible, giving a very green layered garden over the four levels of the building. In collab with @jemhanbury
