Surveying Critically Endangered Night Parrots on Maiawali Country. A couple of glorious weeks in the (green) deserts of south-west QLD.

My first scientific paper! 📝 We used state of the art ground penetrating radar technology to map the underground burrows of the critically endnagered northern-hairy nosed wombat - something that has never been done before. This research will help promote the conservation of the species and go a long way to help determine future translocation sites to areas where this wombat has become extinct since European settlement. Special thanks to @australianwildlifeconservancy , @wombatfoundation and Subsurface Solutions for supporting the project.

Green Gully Track - Thungutti Country 🌿 5 days, 65 kms 🥾 Nothing like living simply, getting the heart rate up and feeling connected to nature for a few days out bush. Highly recommend this hike with remote cabins (therefore no camping), and exclusive to only your group each night. This track had an abundance of wildlife, pristine wilderness views and picture perfect swimming holes. 51 🦜 9 🦘 4 🐸 3 🦎 #greengullytrack #oxleywildriversnationalpark #hiking #multidayhike

Can’t keep me out of north Qld! Thanks to @christine_mgr_ for the invite up to @bushheritageaus Yourka Reserve to assist with the fauna survey. Was fun to get the old gang back together with @errush also joining the team. 📸 1. A cute Eastern Chestnut Mouse 2. Bush Heritage ecology team 3. Funnel traps along drift fence (useful for targeting reptiles) 4. Common Plainigale 5. Eastern Chestnut Mouse 6. Grasstrees were prolific at fauna sites 7. Common Dunnart 8-9. ID’ing the world’s smallest skink. We have to count/inspect the layout of scales on the face and head to positively Identify species. This was a Dwarf Litter-skink 10. Skink ID’s continue back at camp 11. Woodlands of Yourka Reserve 12. Tommy Roundhead Dragon 13. Enjoying being back out bush with @errush 14. Stunning colours among the gum trees 15.
