The story behind our logo. If you’ve watched ‘Play Time’ to the end you would have seen and heard Beryl on our end card, and I thought I’d share the story behind her.
When Céin and I wanted to set up a company we tried to work out an anagram of “Céin and Andy” and whilst “Nice DNA Andy” was a strong option in my opinion, we ended up going with “Nanny Caddie”. Obviously this meant that we needed to create a Nanny who was a golf Caddie so I got out the sketchpad and Beryl was born.
We’ve got such strong memories of animated end cards on our favourite 90’s tv shows and we always wanted Beryl to animate on and say “ooh it’s very heavy”, so when it came to make ‘Play Time’ there was only one person for the job. Up stepped Jean, my 96 year old Grandmother. In her first ever voice over artist role she absolutely smashed it with a charm and authenticity that matches the show perfectly.
‘Play Time’ is still available to watch on ITVx and YouTube so if you haven’t seen it yet then give it a watch, even if it’s just to see Gran stealing the show on the end card.

This month marks 10 years since TOP COPPERS rolled across the bonnet onto @bbctwo . 🚨🧑🦰👨🦰🚨
As a writer and a director, I’m immensely proud of this series. It was a true labour of love for @andyeditstv and I. Conceived in 2006 with a 15 second short, to a self-funded mini-series in 2010, to a BBC pilot in 2014 with @roughcut_tv before we finally made a full BBC series in 2015. What a ride.
We worked with a remarkable, brilliantly creative team who all helped bring alive our silly little idea. Featuring an unbelievable line-up of comedy heroes, some who sadly are no longer with us. ❤️
It was one of those life changing projects that propelled my career into new heights that I could have only dreamed of before then and I’ll always be really grateful for that. 🧡
