"Either you were not serious about your pitch then, or something is missing now. But the contradiction is too big." On the latest Aboard Podcast, @newyorkermag 's @andrewmarantz talks about his big piece on Sam Altman—and how Altman's supposed desire for AI to be well-regulated doesn't match his actions. "The fact that we're throwing around concepts like 'AGI dictator' with even a 5% shred of possibility—that has meaning attached to it in a real sense—is insane." On the latest Aboard Podcast, @newyorkermag staff writer @andrewmarantz discusses his big piece on Sam Altman, and how he's thinking about the Musk v Altman trial. "We talked to people even in the camp of Altman's defenders, who really just said...Sam isn't actually Trumpy; this is a guy who wants to win—and right now the, as you put it 'suck-up-itude' is an avenue for winning." @ronanfarrow and @andrewmarantz on their profile of Sam Altman. I don’t bring much to the table as a spouse, but I always thought I was the only one in our house who knew how to write a six-thousand-word New Yorker piece. Turns out I was wrong about that. Check out Sarah today, taking on a very thorny and counterintuitive set of ideas, and doing it with a level of elegance that is frankly a bit annoying given that this is not her job. I don’t think the world needs another Why Trump Won take, least of all from me, and obviously there’s no one answer. But I do have a piece in print this week, and here are a few paragraphs from it that may be relevant. Link to the full piece is in my bio. It’s not entirely about this election, but it’s not not about this election. Again, I’m not offering any of this as The Answer. There is no skeleton key.

Spent the week in Chicago collecting brat merch and reading about Martin van Buren. The piece — part vibe check, part palace intrigue, part poli-sci book review — is in print next week and online now. Link in bio
