better late than never, i guess.
this assignment and piece were pretty routine. went to pusha’s hotel suite, talked to them for about 40 minutes, wrote it out, filed it&that was that. i knew i wanted to get the readers information about the album &where things were at for them since i had spent parts of two days with them in VA a year prior. i was actually a little disappointed reading their other pieces soon after &realizing what i missed. but you never know who’s watching. shoutout to the LA press club.
i learned pretty early on that no one notices or cares the stakes a piece has for you while you’re doing it. it doesn’t matter if it’s the biggest piece of your life or the kind of piece you do with artists 5 times a month. just like art, when you give it to the world, it belongs to them. so do your best every time
one of my pieces was used in a recent amicus brief in the Drake v UMG case
it was a piece exploring how the prevalence of rap on trial had some artists disclaiming that their bars were “cap.”
proud that my work to help protect artistic license was recognized 🙌🏿

Go to Andre Gee's substack @andrejgee or check out his instagram joint here. This young man has been writing his ass off since I met him at Duke Ellington HS. I'm digging his range in his substack. Now I'm not the last old head who had no idea what the "6 7" shit was all about. Go to his substack and he'll put you on game.
this was a clarifying year. i dont have any drawn out reflections, still processing a lot. but one thing i do know is ill never let anyone have control of my power again, they dont deserve it
