Andrej Beštak & Anja Leko, If You Taste My Tears, You Will Know Why I Cry
In the center of Oktogon, we are met with a drinking fountain; a speculative fiction that delves into the origin of water as giver and taker of life. Merging myth and fact, the water bottles contain the amount of tears a human can produce in a year. Sorrow, grief, and sadness are met with limits, as individuals can take so much; yet connected to a wider eco-story that spreads oceans, seas, and rivers. A soft and infantile gesture was reshaped into a whimsical nursery and lullaby at SKD gallery, the second group exhibition site.
The work belongs to the cycle I will show you where I hide my tears.

Drops of water, rivers, tears and rain, an ocean without waves and a lake with no bottom.
In this space there is an impulse.
Nursery for untold stories.
A romantic space, unspoken love, a soft touch on the skin.
A nervous sensation.
Everything exists in this space.
This sphere is a medium for storing information.
A hard drive of all the impulses of life.
That which is around the corner, still invisible but felt.
A place of unfulfilled desires and great successes.
A laboratory of quantum melancholy.
In this room everything is information and everything is written.
The capacity of tears, the height of the waves, the power of the river and the volume of sweat.

I am swimming in my own body.
In the bluest, darkest liquid I find answers but never remember them.
I am drinking from your hand.
And I am licking your tears.
And I know now why you were crying.
