We popped out in ODG fashion to celebrate Fela Kuti receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award 🌍🎶🙌🏿⭐️
My father Baba Onochie toured with Fela in 1969, played bass on the legendary LA Sessions album, and later chose to stay in America to escape the Nigerian Civil War. A full-circle moment honoring music, resilience, and legacy.

The Maternal Mortality Crisis: It’s something I think about every day during my pregnancy. I teamed up with @birthFUND , @ucheblackstockmd , and my friend @andreammcinnes to get Smarter in Seconds about it. #birthFUNDpartner
Replacing fear with facts is a necessary step and so is finding out what we can do to protect ourselves and our loved ones.
Remember that it is systemic racism, not individual risk factors, primarily driving these health disparities across race. Overt and implicit bias from health care providers is also a contributing factor.
Just a note that in this episode of Smarter in Seconds we refer to this using gendered language, as that’s what’s reflective of the research but this is something that impacts all pregnant people!
I’m honored to work alongside @birthfund to raise awareness and I’m grateful to @andreammcinnes for using the final days of her pregnancy to raise awareness with me!
