tmt33 recap: Extensive filmsound track!
@andre__klar and @catherine_lieser curated the filmsound track at the 33rd Tonmeistertagung. This time, it took place in a hall that was optimally equipped for the topic, the R2 with a wave field synthesis system from Pan Acoustics. In a total of six sessions over three days, they invited visitors to explore an exceptionally strong focus topic, which was well received by attendees. André is convinced that film sound work will change significantly in the medium term:
"With our focus topic ‘AI in Film Sound,’ we spent an entire day exploring the current applications of artificial intelligence. All of the speakers agreed that special AI tools currently mainly support automated workflows. In the concluding panel discussion, we finally ventured a look into the future. One thing became clear: some processes will change – but the new technology will not make us redundant anytime soon."

🎧 Tonmeistertagung 2025 – Was für eine Woche!
Als Verantwortlicher für die Filmton-Vorträge durfte ich spannende Sessions rund um KI im Filmton, Lautheit, Tondramaturgie und Sonic Storytelling moderieren.
▶️ Mittwoch: Von Foley & KI (Johanna Roth) über KI-Tools im Sounddesign (Christoph Groß-Fengels) bis zu M&E & Voiceover mit KI (Philipp Scholz) – plus eine starke Diskussionsrunde. Klar wurde: KI verändert viel, aber Kreativität bleibt unser Kern.
▶️ Donnerstag: AG Kino-Lautheit vorgestellt, spannende Einblicke in Trailer-Tondramaturgie (Sebastian Hage) & Sonic Storytelling (Jörg Lensing), dazu ein Deep Dive zu Das Kanu des Manitu. Am Nachmittag diskutierten 20 Tonmeister:innen in einer geschlossenen Runde über Lautheitsprobleme im Kino.
▶️ Set-Praxis: Windschutz & Vibration (Philippe Chenevez) und versteckte Lavalier-Mics mit Simon Bysshe.
▶️ Samstag: Highlight: Crafting Soundtracks for Blockbuster Films (Cécile Tournesac). Danach Austausch der Verbände darüber, was wir gemeinsam bewegen können.

I worked with ARD and ZDF for over two years on the recommendations for improving speech intelligibility on television. I am all the more pleased that these recommendations have now been published. The five thousand booklets are now being distributed in public service media houses and universities.
