What an experience. These past 14 days have been the best sailing experience I have had yet. I know I have repeated myself on this but this has been a childhood dream come true. This is why I committed my life to skiff sailing
The Harbor did not disappoint. I do have to say that it was one of the most difficult venues I have sailed in. The unreal amount of other boats on the harbor, to the land effects, to the current and wind shifts, made showing up with almost no knowledge a huge learning experience. We had some legendary downwind runs. The racing was very tight wherever you were in the fleet. The camaraderie and general shit talking off the water was all time. I don't think I have laughed that much in a while. And to top all, Sydney is such a beautiful city. It's full of so much life, character, good food, happy people, and deep engrained sailing culture and history.
Our results were a mixed bag, made especially so with two unexpected race ending break downs. But more than that we had some incredible performances considering that we went into this so last minute and with zero practice. We had an incredibly fast dialed boat, the envy of the fleet. And when we could link it together we were swinging with the top of the fleet, which races every Sunday together for years.
@david_liebenberg and
@__qlife__ absolutely crushed it. David's Olympic experience was invaluable as the sheet hand and called some incredible tactics. Daniel was so rock solid on the bow and did a great job with describing the big picture. Even when the port rachet block blew up immediately on the reachy kite day he held on. I am so proud of these guys and our week of sailing.
Lastly, I have to thank John "Herman" Winning Jr on taking a chance on us and sponsoring us for the event,
@andooteamx . Thank you so much to the
@18skiff league for allowing us to join their incredible event. Thank you to all the competitors, volunteers, staff and locals for making us feel so welcomed and helping us out. And most importantly, thanks to Cam McDonald of
@skiffropes with organizing all of this for us. Without him it wouldn't happen.
We will be back
