We are so grateful for our amazing teachers and staff and everything they do for our students every single day. Today in our after school art program @andersenelementarypta , we kicked things off with a mini contemporary lesson on the artist #Banksy—a mysterious, anonymous street artist known for his bold stencil graffiti and iconic imagery seen in public spaces around the world. We dove into the concept of contrast and layering, with each student creating a dark-toned background before building up lighter colors on top using stencil techniques—a signature style often seen in street art. To finish, we added paint splatter for a fun mixed media effect, giving each piece energy and movement. This project is more than just art—it supports fine motor skills, creative risk-taking, and visual problem-solving, while encouraging kids to think about how art can communicate ideas in a bold, accessible way. This week in our afterschool art class @andersenelementarypta , we invited children to step beyond the expected and into a world of imagination—where Q-tips became ferns or blossoms, sticks transformed into pathways, and canvases turned into windows of possibility. With simple, unconventional materials, the children created gardens and abstract designs that reflected not only their creativity, but their ability to observe, interpret, and innovate. In a Montessori-inspired environment, the process is just as meaningful as the outcome. By encouraging children to look closely at their surroundings and discover new uses for everyday objects, we nurture critical thinking, independence, and problem-solving skills. This kind of open-ended exploration strengthens cognitive flexibility and builds confidence in their own ideas.
