Meet the Artist: Anders Duckworth. @andersduckworth is an artist working with dance and its intersection with the material world. Puppetry and costume play a large role in their work as they explore themes of identity, belonging and queer power. The work they are sharing with us at BENTWOOD will be an encounter with one of the dark and transformational creatures of the forest. Anders is a Devon-raised, British/ Swedish, Trans, non-binary choreographer and visual artist and associate artist at The Place, London. Alongside their performance work, they are a ceramicist, drawing upon their interest in capturing the traces of human touch. …………………… BENTWOOD is a new queer-led mini folk fest taking place in Ashburton, Devon on Saturday 30th May 2026. 4.30-10.30pm Local queer artists have come together to lead a festive, half-day promenade event with storytelling, dance and music. With art, artists and taking part at its heart, BENTWOOD platforms the rural queer experience, inviting people from all walks of life to celebrate together. I’ve really enjoyed making these elevated bowls. It takes a bit of patience, like everything in ceramics, but I do love blending throwing and hand building. Hopefully more to come if they survive the Kiln gods #claywork #thrownpotterywithatwist DM me if you’re interested in this one or others like it 🎁

Here’s a my new Tulip vase, DM me @kub.kub.ceramics if you’re interested. I’m trying to get a few tulip vases out before we run into tulip season - one of my favourite times of the year. Each vase has a different design and always go fast. There must be lots of fellow tulip lovers in the world. #handmadework #londonceramics

Last year we were able to offer a programme of free mentoring sessions with @suebuckmaster It was a rich experience for the company and over the next few weeks we’d like to shine a light on the work of the artists who were mentored. First is the wonderful @andersduckworth who is in the middle of rehearsals for Little M, a queer and trans centred retelling of the Little Mermaid which will open at @theplacelondon in October 🧜‍♀️ #mermaid #mentoring

Access to Work is a programme run by The Department for Work and Pensions that subsidises the cost of access measures when employing a disabled person, or when someone is working as self-employed. It is not a perfect system, but it is a foundational part of how disabled people work. This programme is now under threat, which has ramifications for disabled workers but it also has implications for the organisations that employ them. The responsibility to pay for these access measures will fall on cultural organisations at a time when we all face increasingly challenging financial situations, or, we will see a drop in the employment rate for disabled people in the culture sector. This impacts us all. A group of disabled leaders and artists have prepared an open letter to Lisa Nandy and Liz Kendall asking them to pause the current consultation and reconsider changes to the programme. We encourage you to read it, and to add your signature to it in solidarity before June 2nd when we intend to release it to the press: /appSbdVCnzZyRIXJW/pagSDpACTNJP2rtrX/form #protectAtW
