Daar’s soveel woorde wat hierdie ma van my beskryf… te veel om in een plasing op te noem. Maar hier is ’n paar: Raakvatter. Passievol. Humoristies. Intelligent. Vurig. Reguit. Skerpsinnig. Liefdevol. Onverskrokke. Intuïtief. Lewenswys. Ongefilterd. Vol lewe. Iemand wat mense laat lag, maar hulle ook laat dink. Iemand met ’n helende teenwoordigheid, maar ook iemand wat jou op jou tone hou. Mamma aanvaar nie middelmatigheid nie, sien dwarsdeur nonsens, en gee so ongelooflik diep om vir die mense vir wie mamma lief is. Mamma moes eintlik ’n aktrise gewees het — die wêreld kon nog baie meer van mamma se energie, vuur en karakter beleef het. Die wêreld is beslis ’n beter plek omdat mamma daarin is. Ek besef elke jaar meer hoe gelukkig ek is om ’n ma soos jy te hê. Want baie van die eienskappe wat my maak wie ek is, kom van mamma af. Dis dalk nie altyd konvensioneel nie, maar dit leer jou om die lewe op ’n unieke manier te sien en te hanteer — soms bietjie oorweldigend, soms effens scary, maar altyd vol avontuur en opwinding. Hoe gelukkig kan ’n man wees om ’n ma te hê wat hom harder laat lag as enige iemand anders… maar hom terselfdertyd ook meer uitdaag as enige iemand anders? Mamma druk knoppies, hou my wakker, laat my dink en daag my konstant uit (soms word ek net getoets, maar dit vat ‘n ruk om dit agter te kom, ek moet hard werk om by te hou!) — eienskappe wat ongelooflik handig is in my bedryf én in die lewe. Ek hoop ons kan nog saam reis in die jare wat kom. En al het ons mekaar nie genoeg hierdie jaar gesien nie, voel dit steeds asof ons saam deur hierdie lewe reis. Ek sien uit na die res van hierdie avontuur saam met mamma. Moet nooit minder wees as presies wie mamma is nie! Lief vir Mamma. ❤️

Wednesday, 31st March 2021, the night before my 40th birthday, my dear friend @john_joseph_hamman threw me the most incredible surprise birthday party at his restaurant @hammanduys at @blaauwklippen . I did not see any of it coming. He opened his restaurant just for my party, had live performers, incredible food as always, all my favorite people, a birthday video including a personal message from my TV idol Riaan Cryuwagen and a Dancing Queen music video featuring my friends!
