PREMIERE: @ancientmethods - Cache La Misère [@persephonic_sirens ] Ancient Methods returns with his first EP in three years. On “Society of the Spectacle”, we find seven pieces, some of them short, radio play–like sound sketches that draw on Guy Debord’s visionary book of the same name as the conceptual template for selected sonic interpretations. While Ancient Methods’ previous releases already incorporated subtle commentaries on his immediate surroundings, “Society of the Spectacle” dissects microscopic fragments of the text, holding them up like a magnifying glass to illuminate the book’s prophecies as they have materialized in contemporary reality. Musically, however, the EP feels liberated from any attachment to the spirit of the times—almost anachronistically Ancient Methods. Aside from the near-euphoric moments of “Burn The Frame” this may well be the most introverted work of his oeuvre: far removed from sensationalism, yet without paying homage to conservative minimalism.
