The process of the Bug King costume design: 🪲✂️ We started with conceptual mood boards, which inspired Yasmine, my art director, to sketch the mask while I designed the costume. I then built it using household objects since we had a limited budget, working with tin foil and cardboard, pulling late nights and earning a few hot glue burns on my forehead. Maria, my production designer, and I practiced assembling the costume ahead of time while I finished building the remaining pieces. At the same time, Yasmine brought the antennas and mandibles to life! We’ve recently wrapped on our film “Bed Bugs” 🪲 Directing this piece was a true passion project. While we faced many challenges along the way, I was supported by an incredible crew every step of the process. I’ve grown immensely as a director and hope to keep improving with every project. We’ll be starting our festival circuit soon! Log Line: 🎬 A young girl infatuated with fairy tales discovers the Bug King creeping into her bed at night. It’s been a hot minute since I worked on my first short film! Since then, it’s amounted to a surprising amount, although nothing grand. Coming to a whole new country to making a short film in a place I knew nothing about, with a small 4-person crew and several pre-production issues, I’m very proud of the teamwork from this project and how I’ve come to hone my visual style since then.
