Joe and his grandfather’s chain. Salt water on his skin while his own history dangles on his chest. We bathed in what felt like our own secret cove. And I crave a dive so deep into the Aegean blue, to hold my breath and let its waters, so clear, wash me away into something new. Mornings were savored with cold thick yogurt, drizzled generously with wildflower honey and crushed salted pistachios- freshly roasted by a man down the road. The late summer sun dissolved into amber lit nights, jam-jar cups of red in hand, a tiny cat curled up in my lap. It was all just enough to hush the mind and let the body believe, briefly, that everything is fine..
