So, this happened last night! I made my official #nationaltheatre debut 🤩 when I was called to cover for Siobhán McSweeney (who was unfortunately taken ill - I send my love to her💕). It was everything I imagined it would be and more. I was literally sobbing 😭 at Justine Mitchell’s tour de force performance; literally having the time of my life dancing around the Mundy kitchen and virtually pinching myself when I found myself at the curtain call, surrounded by the love and talent of such an incredible company, on that set, under those lights on the OLIVIER STAGE!! A night of pure decadence at the National Theatre for Les Liaisons Dangereuses — a production that luxuriates in every glance, every whisper, every deliciously cruel turn of phrase.
From the moment the curtain rose, it was clear this was no ordinary revival. Marianne Elliott’s direction swept across the stage with elegance and precision, drawing us into a world where manipulation feels like an art form and desire simmers just beneath the surface. And then — the choreography. Tom Jackson Greaves delivered movement that quite literally crackled with sexual tension; bodies circling, colliding, retreating — each gesture loaded, dangerous, irresistible.
What made it truly sing, though, was the ensemble. So tight, so attuned, that every exchange felt electric. Add to that the glorious, sumptuous costumes and a soundtrack that pulsed and swelled in all the right places, and you had a staging that felt both opulent and fiercely alive. A beautiful adaptation in every sense.
And as if the evening couldn’t get much better — a Much Ado About Nothing (2006) reunion at the after party with #tamsingreig and #marianneelliott We couldn’t believe that it has been 20 years!
