Ruins by Amy Taylor (@amy_ester_ ) is out now in paperback!
.
At a crossroads in their relationship, Emma and Julian agree to house-sit for a friend in Athens over the course of an oppressive summer. Their plans take an unexpected turn when they meet Lena, an enigmatic young Greek woman who presents an opportunity for them to explore their relationship in uncharted and thrillingly risky ways.
But as the heat in the city grows stifling, Emma and Julian find themselves far more entangled in Lena's life than they’d bargained for.
What follows is a highly-charged three-way struggle for control, as Emma, Julian and Lena are suddenly faced with consequences far greater – and far more dangerous – than they could have predicted.

To celebrate one week until Ruins is on Australian shelves (!) here is an ode to the gloriously idiosyncratic and iconic Athenian polykatoikia lobby. All images sourced from @athens___mon_amour an account that brings a little joy to my feed.
Ruins will be on shelves in Australia in less than a month (August 12th in the U.S.) To celebrate here are some photos I’ve amassed from locations that feature in the book!
——————————————————————
Part two:
1. Athens.
‘The city of Athens was like a bowl, the edges of which were the hills that surrounded it on one side and the vast Aegean Sea on the other.’
2. Plaka, Athens - Athenian apartment buildings.
‘At the end of the room was a thin staircase with a black railing, which curved around and up through the floors.’
3. Vallianeio Megaron.
‘Most mornings around 8 am, Julian went to work in the reading room at the Vallianeio Megaron, leaving behind a half-full French press and the smell of toast mixed with the scent of his cologne.’
4. Vallianeio Megaron.
‘Julian left the library, emerging back into the startling heat of the day and walking down the curved stone staircase.’
5. Omonia Station - (me taking notes or consulting my gps) photo taken by @cece_film
‘They’d arrived via the metro and exited onto the street at Omonia station.’
6. Monastiraki Flea Market.
‘The tapering path toward the end of the market revealed rows of narrow antique stores, which were filled to ceiling with old furniture.’
7. Monastiraki Flea Market.
‘She continued through until the stalls began to take on the look of a garage sale, with people spreading blankets out on the ground and covering them with dusty glassware, rusted cutlery and chipped picture frames.’
